Granted I have a certain US bias, but the forces of the USA are battle tested. China, without any doubt, has technical prowess, but it is untested. That has been pointed out elsewhere. 

There is also a question of how the son's, growing up in the privileged Single Child generation, are going to sacrifice themselves for China, as one article asked. That is part of the equation; they have never had to sacrifice for the welfare of others. Then again, maybe that is a none issue too.
